25 Charlton Street, Everett, Massachusetts
1. Project overview
This project converted vacant former industrial buildings and parking lots into 328 rental apartments targeted toward the millennial generation. It is located in the central portion of Everett, Massachusetts about 2.5 miles from downtown Boston. The site is comprised of approximately four acres of land. The industrial buildings were constructed between the 1890s and the 1960s. The former land use that had the most significant impact on environmental conditions was the manufacture of inorganic pesticides between 1900 and 1926. The pesticide operations resulted in very high concentrations of arsenic in soil and groundwater at the site. The project was initiated in the fall of 2011 and the first of the apartments were occupied in summer of 2014.
